Though there seems to be a fundamental human desire, especially at younger ages, to love and be loved (why wouldn't there be) by many of those around us (black/white, old/young, female/male) we aren't completely free, nor willing, to love and form relationships with anyone we might be instinctively drawn towards.
The game has rules and there are consequences for breaking them. Pink and Blue organizes the teams, and for the guy's team, the threat of being a fag... fighting for the pink team... is a foundational influence upon our relationships with both women and men.
