Holden stopped wanting to stay home and watch tv with him -- didn't invite him to the club so he could go home with Alyssa -- didn't go on the trip with him to be with her, and started bringing her to their apartment all the time...
Banky throws that fit because he can't stand that Holden's chasing something that falls outside of his understanding of ("dick" needing) women (such as love) and demands whether Holden would choose him or her...
Banky says everyone has an agenda, and that his is to watch Holden's back (a guy-way of saying to be with Holden)... to "insure that all this time we've ... spent together building something isn't wasted."
And Holden doesn't see it. All he sees is Banky's hate for Alyssa. Hooper has to plant the seed about "that boy loves you in a way that he's not ready to deal with" before he grasps why Banky's upset, which leads to that final scene...
