Straight white male is the default.
It's normal. It's objective. It's the standard. We're not seen as different because we're straight, white, or male. Different is being non-white, or being a woman, or not being straight. Social movements such as civil rights, feminism, and lesbian/gay progress were created in reaction to the straight white male category, by people who were not white, not male, and not straight. We don't have a civil rights-based social movement. There is not a movement for us to contemplate our own whiteness, masculinity, or heterosexuality.
